Our Staff

Alumni, NYC school teachers, college debaters, parents, volunteers - make up the incredible staff of the New York City Urban Debate League (NYCUDL). We were founded at the grassroots level by teachers and students and we continue as a grasroots organization composed primarily of volunteers. What makes our organization the most unique and reason why we have been rated as one of the top after school programs in the city and country – we have so many volunteers! Dozens of New York City public school teachers , hundreds of alumni, hundreds of high school debaters who volunteer with our middle school debaters, parents, over a hundred community volunteers who were former debaters and more. We also work with numerous community organizations including Columbia University, Teachers College, the Institute for Urban and Minority Education, NY Cares, NYC Service, the Bella Abzug Leadership Institute, nearly every CUNY, New York University, St. John’s University – every college with a debate team!

On any given weekend, the NYCUDL hosts high school and middle school debate tournaments. Our tournaments are made possible thanks to countless volunteers, teachers, parents, alumni, students and staff. Below are several of our many amazing Tournament Staff members that make everything possible.

What makes urban debate leagues the most unique and historical debate leagues in the nation, is that our primary mission is not simply debate tournaments but supporting schools, teachers, administrators, parents and students to start sustainable and successful debate programs in schools. Our amazing outreach staff does just this by supporting schools across the city.
