Girls Summer Debate Institute
In partnership with the Bella Abzug Leadership Institute
ABOUT THE GIRLS SUMMER DEBATE INSTITUTE
Held at Hunter College, main campus, and in partnership with the Bella Azbug Leadership Institute (BALI) we host the Girls Summer Debate Institute for two weeks during the summer. While all of the NYCUDL's summer institutes are open to debaters of all genders, this program is the only one that is geared specifically toward young women. This program includes lectures and lab sessions in small groups as well as tours and guest speakers of some of the leading women’s organizations in the city. Workshops cover topics ranging from body confidence to self-expression to conflict resolution and so much more! BALI provides skills-based leadership, policy, and public forum debate training, which would otherwise be unavailable to our trainees if we did not provide it free of any tuition cost.
Our Leadership and Debate Training Summer Programs are offered to students 13-21 years old, attending schools in the NYC Metropolitan Area. We offer two two-week cohorts of intensive leadership and debate training, customized based on the most important issues concerning our young women NOW! On top of leaving with valuable skills in debate and advocating for oneself as a young woman in today's world, students will gain a competitive edge in future NYCUDL debate tournaments.
